The conference will be open to students from grades 8 to 12 from all schools in the Yukon. There will be five visiting authors. This year, The Yukon Science Institute sponsors one writer, The Public Library sponsors one writers, the Gwaandak Theatre sponsors one writer and the Department of Education sponsors two writers. As well as working with young authors, each of the visiting writers will do a reading at the school on Thursday and Friday (May 1-2) open to students and adults who wish to attend. On Friday afternoon at 2:05 the Young Authors will do a reading from their works. The Conference will cost each student $10.00 to help cover the cost of food over the two days. Lunch will be provided as well as juice, coffee and cookies for breaks each morning and afternoon. Each student will be placed in a group assigned to one of the writers. They will spend both days in the same group with the same writer. While in the workshops, students will undertake various writing activities. Teachers at the Conference are invited to participate in the workshops as well. Each student participant will receive a portfolio containing a copy of the manuscripts submitted by all students in the group before the conference, and a pen and paper.
