How The Seal Came To Be

One night Grandfather and Grandson were sitting in their lodge and Grandfather told Grandson a story abut the seal.
Many years ago the Haida had no food for the winter, so the great chief prayed to the Haida spirits and the Haida spirits were sad. They took an otter and transformed it into a bigger animal that lived and swam in the ocean and that the Haida could hunt with their boats.
The Haida thanked the great spirits for providing this animal. It gave them skin for their boats and their bladders made floats for their fishing lines. So the Haida called this great animal Seal.
