welcome
If you are interested in all things Yukon you have certainly come to the right place.  We are the largest website on the planet dealing exclusively with Yukon history.  We have hundreds of full size historical photos as well as tons of historical text.  Our site is multi-layered, so don't be afraid to explore.  We are continually adding new features and content to our site so check back often.  We have tried to make our site both entertaining and informative.
Carcross Community School is a very small school located 75 km south of Whitehorse and 100 km north of Skagway, Alaska. We have 62 students in our school, ranging from kindergarten to grade 9. Despite being so small, we have a motto we live by that says, "We're a small school with BIG ideas!" We strive to live up to that motto day in and day out, especially when we undertake an IT project.

We are very proud of all we have done here at Carcross Community School. The following is a partial list of some of our accomplishments. We believe that we are the only elementary school in North America that has an active CRTC licensed radio station that broadcasts out into the community and beyond. Our station call sign is CIKO 97.5 FM. Many of our students have their own radio programs. We recently completed construction of our new sound studio. We hope to begin streaming our student's radio shows over the internet in the near future. Our climbing wall is something that has to be seen to believed. It is the most technically difficult and the most beautifully painted climbing wall in all the north, possibly in all of Canada. Many have said that it is now one of the "wonders" of the Yukon. It has been dubbed "The Great Wall" by the local media and has been featured in print, T.V. and on radio. It really and truly has to be seen to truly be appreciated! We have a fantastic shop program where the students make furniture to sell to the community, we have a state of the art photography lab that is capable of both black and white and color photography and have a very active photo group in our school. We are presently in the process of putting together our very own digital school yearbook. We publish a school newspaper that keeps the community and parents informed of the goings-on in the school. Our pottery program is the envy of many schools in the north. It is run by a wonderful lady named Claudia McPhee from Tagish. We have one of the best cross-country ski clubs in the territory and just out behind our school are the famous Carcross cross-country trails that boast 2 km, 5 km and 10 km runs. People from all over the territory travel to our community to use our trails. The scenery here is often compared to Switzerland, in fact we are sometimes referred to as "little Switzerland." For such a small school we continually strive to not only have BIG ideas, but to make those ideas happen!! During the making of this web site, most of the school was involved in one way or another, as was the community. It was a wonderful experience indeed. Our goal was to put together a web site that tells the complete historical story of the Yukon's colorful past as well as a way of showcasing our community, our students and our school!! It was an exhausting journey but it was also a most rewarding one!! Recently we were chosen as an NIS school (Network of Innovative Schools) of which there are only 120 in all of Canada. It was a very proud and thrilling moment for our entire school. With that honor our school won an award of $30,000 to purchase IT equipment. Our web site was chosen as an honorable mention in a Grassroots School Project open to all schools across Canada. We have also won the "Road Less Traveled Award" given to community groups who have had a positive impact on their communities using technology.  That all said, we welcome you and we sincerely hope that you enjoy your visit to our humble web site! Gunalchise!
Our website would not have been possible without the kindness of Stan Cohen, Lost Moose Publishing, Joyce Hayden, Council of Yukon First Nations and Jim Robb. Thank you one and all!
