Widening Paths

Issues that are still of Importance

  • Motor vehicles are widening the paths on our greenbelt
  • Motor vehicles are using the trails in an unsafe manner so they threaten the people, pets, frogs, birds and wild animals that live in and use our greenbelt.
  • The motor vehicles reckless drivers drive over trees, shrubs, gopher homes and basically anything that is small and has a home in the ground
  • The noise level of the motor vehicles is scaring away the wildlife in our greenbelt and is also disturbing to us.
  • The motor vehicles make holes and piles of dirt in the ground which doesn't make it a nice place to walk or run.
  • The amount of wildlife in our greenbelt is disappearing rapidly due to the motor vehicles chasing them and destroying their homes.
  • The increase of oil and gas pollution is high and when that sort of pollution is made in the woods wildlife and trees that are around it die.
  • StudentThe students of Elijah Smith have planted trees and flowers on the school yard and in the green belt to keep it alive but motor vehicles are destroying them.
  • We have in the past and are trying again to put nesting boxes throughout the green belt to encourage the return of birds and we hope they will not be tampered with.
  • We are aware that some of the issues mentioned above are also due to the increased number of people using the green belt without the use of a motor vehicle, but the extent of the damage and in most cases, such as the definite widening of the paths, can easily be traced to motor vehicles.
  • Safety issues of many kinds that involve walkers, skiers, snowshoers, runners, joggers is a very important issue. Many students have experienced close encounters with snow machines that has frightened them and were potentially dangerous. The students have been made aware of incidents that their parents, friends, and family friends have spoken of also.
