İİİİ Wolves were once white. Here's a legend to tell you how the Grey Wolf became grey. One morning Wolf was searching for food when he noticed a bunch of ravens flying in circles.
İİİ ìCan I learn how to fly?î asked Wolf.
İİİ The ravens said, ìYes, but we have to teach you! It will be hard.î
İİİ They flew down next to Wolf. ìHere, stick this into your arm,î said the Chief Raven, as he plucked one of the feathers from his wing.
İİİİİ After a while, Wolf had enough feathers in him to fly. The ravens led Wolf to a big pyramid, not an ordinary one. It showed a Haida picture of some ravens on a flat surface.
İİİ Once Wolf and the ravens got to the top, Wolf said, ìOkay, can you ravens lift me above the clouds? I always wanted to go up there!î
İİİİ Then the ravens said, ìSure, here... we'll lift you up there!î
İİİİ And later, they were above the clouds, and the ravens said, ìOkay, now what?î
İİİİİ ìLet me go and I'll try to fly!î said Wolf.
İİİİİ They let go of Wolf. He went soooo..... fast that he lit on fire! Then he hit the cedar mat that the ravens laid out for him just in case something went wrong. He hit the mat near the pyramid. He rolled over and over to get the fire out.
İİİİ He was crispy grey! That was how the Grey Wolf became grey.
