Since 1984, the annual running of the Yukon Quest 1000 mile (1600km) International Sled Dog Race has captured the attention of race enthusiasts and dog lovers from Canada, the United States and Europe. The Quest offers an opportunity to experience the magical wilderness of the North and the amazing camaraderie between musher and dog -- a truly distinctive feature of this region.
Yukon Quest trail follows the old Gold Rush routes of the late 1800's.
The direction of travel along the Quest trail varies, with race starts being held alternatively in Whitehorse, Yukon(odd years)and Fairbanks, Alaska (even years). This year is an exception and the Quest will begin in Whitehorse, Yukon, on February 8 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Gold Rush.
Students - this is your opportunity to learn about the Quest, ask specific questions to a Quest musher, vet or dog handler involved in the 1998 Yukon Quest. Stay tuned during the running of the race and we will provide you will daily updates as the mushers make their way to Fairbanks, Alaska!
