Whales
are marine animals
found in the oceans
throughout the world.
Some are the biggest,
most intelligent
creatures alive
today. What do you
know about whales?
What questions do you
have about
whales?
For
the next four weeks,
you will be
participating in a
Whale Webquest. A
Webquest is an
inquiry activity in
which all the
information you use
comes from the
Internet. In this
Webquest, you will
explore whale
websites to learn
about types of
whales. You will
present what you have
learned in an oral
report to the rest of
the group at the end
of the
webquest.
- Task
- While
learning about
what exciting
animals whales
are, you will be
working with a
partner. You and
your partner will
work cooperatively
to navigate the
selected websites.
Together, you will
be reading,
gathering,
recording, and
presenting
information you
have
found.
At
first you will focus
on general whale
information and find
out why whales are
classified as
mammals. Then you
will discover the two
main groups of whales
and why they are
divided this
way.
With
your partner you will
select one whale from
each group to study.
You will collect
information to
complete a
Research
Information
Chart.
You
will use graphs to
show differences
between the types of
whales you have
selected to
study.
You
will use all the
information collected
to compose a brief
oral report to share
what you have learned
with the rest of the
group.
You
will also have an
opportunity to create
a picture of your
whale using a drawing
application such as
Kid Pix or the
AppleWorks
program.
